A {{c1::bunion}} is a {{c2::lateral deviation/valgus malformation of the great toe at the metatarsal phalangeal joint}}.

Dx {{c3::clinically}}.
Tx is conservative management w/ {{c3::orthotic devices}}, {{c3::wearing toe separators at night}}, and OTC analgesics. May consider {{c3::surgery}} if severe 

Note 1: Bunions can be associated w/ inflammation and significant pain/disability; Treatment options only have limited evidence
Note 2: Etiology may be related to shoes w/ narrow toe box
Note 3: XR aren't needed for Dx, but can assess for underlying articular damage
