While long-acting benzos (e.g. {{c1::chlordiazepoxide}}) are typically preferred for alcohol w/d, short-acting benzos (e.g. {{c1::lorazepam}}, {{c1::oxazepam}}) are preferred when {{c2::severe alcoholic hepatitis/cirrhosis}} is present.
Notes
Note 1: Long-acting benzos have less frequent changes from agitated to sedated, and lower chance for recurrent w/d or seizures
Note 2: Lorazepam is a short- to moderate-acting benzo
