When faced w/ a perceived discriminatory request from a patient (e.g. insisting for a white clinician), clinicians should:

(1) ensure that the patient is stable
(2) ensure the patient has {{c1::decision-making capacity}}
(3) determine the {{c1::reason for the request}} before deciding whether to accommodate, negotiate, offer transfer, or set limits on unacceptable behavior.

Note: Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 indicates that all health care employees have the right to a workplace that is free from discrimination based on religion, race, color, sex, and national origin
