Empiric therapy for bacterial meningitis in Pts > 50 yo, OR Pts w/ altered cell-mediated immunity should include:

1. {{c1::Vancomycin}} +
2. ({{c1::Ceftriaxone}} OR {{c1::Cefotaxime}}) +
3. {{c1::Ampicillin}} + 
4. {{c1::Adjunctive dexamethasone}}
Notes
Note 1: Adjunctive dexamethasone is given w/ the first dose of empiric abx for bacterial meningitis; discontinue promptly if the cause is not S. pneumoniae

Note 2: Amp covers Listeria monocytogenes

Note 3: Examples of altered cell-mediated immunity includes SLE
