Calculate the broadening of a pulse due to propagation in a dispersive medium

- We can use the dispersion parameter, which is a material constant
- The broadening is \(\tau=\sqrt{\Delta t^2 + (D\Delta \lambda_v\Delta z)^2}\), with the initial pulse duration \(\Delta t\), the wavelength FWHM \(\Delta \lambda_v = \frac{\lambda_v\Delta\nu}{\nu}\) and traveled distance \(\Delta z\)
