Relate quantitatively coefficients for spontaneous emission, stimulated emission and absorption in a two-level system embedded in a cavity.

- Three properties of the atomic transition & the resonator, but independent on the EM field inside the resonator, with energy density of the EM field\(\rho\):
- Spontaneous emission total rate for one atom \(A_{21}=\frac{1}{t_{sp}}\)
- Absorption rate for one atom \(W_{12}=B_{12}\rho(\nu_0)\)
- Stimulated emission rate per atom \(W_{21}= B_{21}\rho(\nu_0)\)
- Related by the Einstein relation, which original comes from assuming thermal equilibrium but is generally valid.
- Rate of spontaneous emission is A and the B's have to be the same, so \(B=B_{21}=B_{12}\).
