Bipolar I → clinical features
- patients MUST have had a {{c1::manic disorder for diagnosis}}
- if currently depressed, cannot be distinguished from MDD
- if mania was precipitated from antidepressant initiation, it {{c1::does not count}}
- manic episodes typically have {{c2::rapid onset}} → untreated lasts about 3 months
- if a patient has >{{c2::4 or more episodes/year}}, classified as rapid cycler
