identify the orientation of the image based on the probe {{c1::marker}} (an indicator on the probe) and the icon on the ultrasound machine
--> probe orientation is important to ensure that your {{c2::hand}} movements translate to the movements on the ultrasound screen

when the indicator is pointed to the patients {{c5::head}}
--> image slices are along the {{c8::median}} or sagittal plane
--> image will have anterior, posterior, superior and inferior information - relative to the image slice

when the indicator is pointed to the patients {{c6::right}} side
--> image slices are {{c7::transverse}}
--> image will have anterior, posterior, right and left, or medial and lateral information - relative to the image slice

IN SUPINE position...
--> Objects near the {{c3::top}} of the screen correlate with structures {{c4::closest}} to the probe (anterior) on the patient.
--> Objects near the {{c3::bottom}} of the screen correlate with structures {{c4::furthest}} away from the probe (posterior) on the patient.
