Inspect
fingernails and capillary refill
• “Can
I take a look at your hands?”
• Blanch
finger
tip or
nail bed, release, estimate time it takes for {{c5::color}} (blood) to come back
→ slow capillary refill can be sign of poor circulation
• Assess
fingernails for {{c3::clubbing}} --> potential
sign of heart or lung disease or {{c4::cancer}}
• Normal: “Capillary
refill < {{c1::2}} seconds. No clubbing”
• Abnormal: “Clubbing
present. Capillary refill {{c2::3-4}} seconds, delayed.”
