  • The development of Buddhist architecture began  with the creation of various symbols representing  various aspects of the Buddha’s life (563 BCE –  483 BCE)
  • For the first time, it was the Indian emperor Ashoka  who not only made Buddhism the state religion of  his vast Magadh empire but also chose to spread  Buddhism through architectural monuments.
