DiGeorge syndrome (DGS) and velocardiofacial syndrome (VCFS) are associated with a deletion of chromosome 22q11 affecting pharyngeal pouch development. DGS presents with abnormal conotruncal cardiac development, a hypoplastic thymus, and hypocalcemia.It is associated with developmental delay and social and emotional skill deficits. VCFS presents with an elongated face, retrognathia, a prominent nose, hypernasal speech, and cardiac defects. Learning disabilities, schizophrenia, and paranoia may be present
