Forced convection vs free convection and when they both occur

Free: spontaneous flow arising from nonhomogeneous fields of volumetric forces, aka usually density variations; occur when low velocity, large temperature differences (density differences aka buoyancy forces are important)
Forced: fluid motion is generated by an external source (like a pump, fan, suction device, etc.) to drive heat transfer; occur when high velocity, low temperature differences
