Resistance to Colistin (Polymixin E) is encoded via the Mcr-1 gene which alters the structure of {{c1::Lipid A}}

Extra

- Lipid A is the cytotoxic component of LPS

- The altered Lipid A has much lower affinity for Colistin, thus reduced activity

- Seen in E. Coli, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Salmonella enterica
