glucose goes through glycolysis in {{c1::cytoplasm}} of cell
glucose (6C) → pyruvate (3C) → cirtric acid (Krebs) cycle and ETC → makes {{c3::32}} ATP
→ byproducts: CO2, H2O
→ {{c2::aerobic}} respiration because O2 required by ETC
if not enough glucose, mitochondria burns FAs → fuel via {{c4::beta oxidation}}
→ peroxisome chops long FAs into medium FAs (only medium can undergo beta-ox.)
*process generates dangerous hydrogen peroxide... but {{c5::peroxidase}} enzyme safely converts hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen
