Fields:

Text
Patients with medically intractable symptoms (ex. bradykinesia, rigidity) of Parkinsons disease may benefit from deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the {{c1::Globus pallidus internus}} or the {{c2::subthalamic nucleus}}
Extra
This is done with a high frequency DBS which has an inhibitory effect on the targeted structures; resulting in disinhibition and increased activity in the thalamus leading to improved mobility

medically intractable means it is not easily controlled by drugs (ex. when patients develop On/Off periods)
