Text

Multiple sclerosis is an {{c2::autoimmune}} destruction of CNS myelin and {{c1::oligodendrocytes}}

Extra
Type 4 HSR, particularly against myelin basic protein
- destruction is mediated by CD8 CTLs, Th17 cells, and Th1 cells that release IFN-y to activate MO that help cause damage

-Because there is loss of Myelin, both the conduction velocity and space (length) constant of nerves decrease; this also induces a conduction block (which over time can restore to some point)
- (space constant = length at which a nerve depolarization can travel until it decays to about 1/3 of its original potential)
