Clot regulation

- anticoagulation happens {{c1::during::during/after}} primary and secondary hemostasis and regulates clot formation

- {{c7::clot retraction}} and fibrinolysis occurs {{c2::after::during/after}} → help clot contract and degrade

anticoagulation
- excess thrombin binds to thrombomodulin on undamaged cells → binds with protein {{c4::C}} and cofactor protein {{c4::S}} → inhibits factor {{c3::V}} (common pathway) and factor {{c3::VIII}} (intrinsic pathway) → slows coagulation down

- antithrombin (same as antithrombin III) binds to thrombin and {{c5::X}} →  inactivates them
*also inhibits VII, IX, XI and XII but much less affinity
*target of {{c6::heparin}} → binds antithrombin III and increases its affinity to targets → increased anticoagulant effects

{{c7::clot retraction}}
- actin/myosin in platelet {{c8::lamellipodia}} contract → brings edges of wound closer together → endothelial cells can divide and heal the wound
*{{c8::lamellipodia}}: increase SA of platelet → easier to grab on to fibrin and endothelial lining
→ occurs one hour after primary and secondary hemostasis
→ happens by activation of integrin IIbBeta3
