pulmonary compliance is determined by {{c1::lung compliance and chest wall compliance }}
Extra

collapsing force of lung and expandnig force of chest wall usually equal and opposite for healthy patient at FTC.
disease can alter this balance:
-loss of elasticity in emphysema (COPD) and increased compliance --> exhalation becomes more difficult, leasts to wheezing, active exhalation, and shortness of breath + use of accessory muscles to breath
-loss of compliance in fibrosis decreases compliance and inhibits chest wall expanding force.
