Function:
Regulates the body's homeostasis through the autonomic nervous system and pituitary gland. Regulates body temperature, blood pressure, heart and respiration rates, thirst and hunger, growth, sexual activity, reproduction and the bodies response to stress. Also helps stimulate secondary sex characteristics + reproductive system.
Oxytocin is produced by the hypothalamus.
Has a role in emotional responses. 5 F's - fight, flight, freeze, fawn, flop
Disorder:
Bilateral lesions in the Hypothalamus can produce rage
Electrical stimulation in certain parts of the
Hypothalamus: = emotions of pleasure or fear
