Text
Pruritis from intrathecal opioids can be treated with {{c1::ondansetron/zofran}} or {{c2::naloxone}}.
Extra
- Pruritis is mediated by 5-HT3 receptors, not histamine receptors
- Pruritis is seen centrally - head, neck, torso
- Not mediated by mast cell degranulation.
- Can be treated with naloxone or zofran. Benadryl's sedation effects can help too.
- can also be treated by nalbuphine and butorphanol
