Atrial enlargement predisposes patients to atrial {{c1::fibrillation}} and atrial {{c1::flutter}}.
Extra
With diastolic dysfunction, there is a relatively large increase in the ventricular end-diastolic pressure (due to those thick walls that can't relax as well). Patient's with diastolic dysfunction are predisposed to CHF.

Note* The elderly patient with diastolic dysfunction may poorly tolerate perioperative fluid administration, resulting in elevated left ventricular end-diastolic pressure and pulmonary congestion.
