Plasmin degrades stable fibrin into fibrin breakdown products in a process called Fibrinolysis. The principal inhibitor of Fibrinolysis therefore is a one that directly affects the activity of Plasmin. Figure 18-14 in Boron shows the Fibrinolytic Cascade and it is indicated there that Alpha 2 – AP (Antiplasmin) directly inhibits Fibrinolysis activity of Plasmin.
