Contraindications for methoxyflurane: (7 groups)

1. Pts. < 18 y/o

2. Pregnancy or currently breast feeding.

3. Inability to comply, decreased level of consciousness or head injury.

4. Currently using tetracycline antibiotics as both are nephrotoxic (e.g. Doxycycline and minocycline)

5. Pmhx of clinically significant renal impairment. 

6. Hx of liver dysfunction following previous exposure to halogenated anesthetics. Ie. "Any previous reaction to general anesthetics?" "Any problem with your liver?"

7. Personal or genetic hx of malignant hyperthermia or muscular dystrophy. (All halogenated anesthetics have the potential to cause malignant hyperthermia and pts with MD are even more suspectible to this)
