Causes of Acute Compartment Syndrome

  • Soft tissue trauma
  • Vascular reperfusion of acutely ischaemic limb
  • Burns (circumferential eschar)
  • Crush injuries
  • Haemorrhage (10% on anti-coagulants or have bleeding disorder)
  • Drug injection
  • Post Lithotomy positioning ‘’bowel or bladder surgery’’
  • Acute on chronic exertional compartment syndrome (Rare)
    • Seen in runners
