Transcription factor critical for development of eye, thyroid, urinary and reproductive organs

PAX8 positive tumours:

Kidney

RCC (90%)
Renal oncocytoma (80%)
Nephrogenic adenoma
Nephroblastoma

Mullerian (but not mucinous)

Ovarian carcinoma
Endometrial adenocarcinoma (incl. endometrioid, serous, clear cell)

Thymus
Thyroid

Thyroid anaplastic carcinoma and other thyroid tumours _{(Differentiates thyroid cancer PAX8+ from HNSCC PAX8-)}

Can be positive in enteropancreatic neuroendocirne tumours (but not lung)

PAX8 negative tumours

Breast
GI (most)
Lung
Prostate
