Summary:
- Marker of germ cells.
- Positive in seminoma / dysgerminoma
- Positive in embryonal carcinoma
- Negative in other testicular/ovarian GCTs: yolk sac, teratoma, choriocarcinoma
Function:
- Marker of germ cells, not expressed in somatic tissues
- Strong, diffuse nuclear expression seen in seminoma/dysgerminoma and embryonal carcinoma
- Can be expressed focally in advacned epithelial and lymphatic malignancy
Use by pathologists
- Makrer fro primary adn metastatic germ cell derived tumours of the ovary and extragonadal sites
- Highly sensitive and specific for primary intracranial germinomas
Positive staining (disease)
- Seminoma, dysgerminoma (100%)
- Embryonal caricnoma (100%)
- Other ovarian tumours
- Serous adenocarcinoma (90%)
- Mucinous adenocarcinoma (60%)
Negative staining
- Yolk sac tumour
- Teratoma (mature and immature)
- Choriocarcinoma
- Sertoli-Leydig cell tumour
- Granulosa cell tumour
- Other non-germ cell derived testicular tumours
