Summary: Yolk sac tumour marker (also seen in some HCC)

Function / general

Marker related to embyronic development (yolk sac)
Mainly used for diagnosing germ cell tumours and liver tumours
Overlal specific but not a sensitive marker

High serum levels in several conditions - see AFP tumour marker

Positive staining

Yolk sac tumour (60%)

Specific marker but less sensitive than gylpican 3

Hepatocellular carcinoma (2-60%)

Specific, but not sensitive

Negative staining

Testis/ovary/GCT

Seminoma
Embryonal carcinoma
Choriocarcinoma
Gonadbolastoma
Spermatocytic tumoru
Teratoma

Hepatobiliary

Hepatoblastoma
Cholangiocarinoma
Metastatic adenocarcinomas to liver
