Neurovascular supply of the prostate
  • Nerve - branches of {{c1::inferior hypogastric plexus}}
    • {{c2::Sympathetic nerve fibers}} cause {{c3::smooth muscle of gland to contract}}
  • Artery - {{c1::inferior vesical arteries (from internal iliac) and superior and middle rectal arteries}}
  • Venous plexus - {{c1::drains into internal iliac vein and vertebral venous plexus}}
  • These nerves, arteries, and venous plexuses pass {{c1::posterolateral to the prostate}}
