Fields:

Front
What is glycocalyx?
Back
A layer of polysaccharide +/- proteins surrounding the bacterial cell. Either a capsule (a defined thin layer) or a slime layer (more diffuse, thicker layer). The glycocalyx protects the bacteria from immune cells/phagocytosis along with drug penetration. The layer also traps nutrients and allows bacterial cells to attach and aggregate.
