Infectious microbial agents can be
divided into three broad groups:
1. Typical {{c1::Normal Microbiota}}, which do not cause diseases under most conditions, (but which can become opportunists).
2. {{c1::Opportunists}} may cause disease due to unusual circumstances, such as immunosuppression, etc.
3. Overt {{c1::Pathogens}} that typically cause disease when present and are not generally normal microbiota.
FYI. The term Normal Flora is being replaced by the newer term {{c1::Microbiota}}.
