Field Change Suggestions:
Differentiate between bronchiolitis and asthma based on the typical age of onset and triggers.
Bronchiolitis
  • Usually < 2 yo with peak incidence of 3-6 mos
  • Most common trigger is viral infection, usually RSV
Asthma
  • Any age, but commonly diagnosed in childhood, many cases identified at 5 yo
  • Triggers include: allergens (e.g. pollen, dust mites, pet dander, mold), URTI viral, environmental (e.g. smoke, pollution, cold air, strong odors), exercise, stress and emotions, medications (e.g. ASA, NSAIDs)
