How does a breath-holding spell differ from a seizure in presentation?
Breathholding spells are involuntary and in response to a trigger, usually emotional, most common between 6 mos - 6 yrs and peaking at 2 yrs, may be loss of consciousness. Duration usually < 1 min, may turn pale or cyanotic due to hypoxia, may have stiffening of body/ arching of back/ brief convulsion --> secondary to lack of O2 vs actual seizure. Rapid recovery.
