- Bleeding: uterine atony, retained products, uterine perforation, AV malformation, placenta accreta (if prior c-section)
- Cervical laceration
- Pain
- Drug reaction to anesthesia
- Bleeding: retained placenta, infection, uterine atony
- Fever/ infection
- Septic abortion
- Pain: infections, retained placenta, hematometria
Typical side effects
- Cramping
- N/V
- Bleeding
Rare but serious side effects
- Cervical insufficiency
- Ashermans syndrome (adhesions within uterine cavity --> amenorrhea, hypomenorrhea, infertiity, recurrent miscarriages, pelvic pain, mentrual irregularities)
- PE, amniotic fluid embolism
- Hysterectomy due to placenta accreta, perforation, lacerations
