How is COPD diagnosed?
Consider dx of COPD in any pt with dyspnea, chronic cough, or sputum production; and/or hx of exposure to risk factors (tobacco smoke, smoke from home cooking/ heating fuels; occupational dusts, vapors, fumes, gases, etc; wildfire; host factors including genetics, developmental abnormalities, low birthweight, prematurity, childhood resp infections, etc). Confirm dx with sprirometry demonstrating post-bronchodilator ratio of FEV1/FVC < 0.7.
