  • Acute rise in BP in pt with previously stable readings
  • Age of onset before puberty
  • Age < 30; and nonobese, nonblack (US), no FHx HTN
  • Hypertensive emergency with evidence of end-organ damage
  • Hypertensive crisis and resistant despite three adequate AHA (including one diuretic)
