  • Prodrome:
    • Fever, headache, coryza, N&D
  • Initial presentation, Rash 2-5 days later:
    • mild, fever in only 15–30%,
    • cervical lymphadenopathy
    • intensely red, ‘slapped cheek’ rash often with circumoral pallor (viraemic phase); spares nasal ridge
    • By the time the rash develops, the viraemia has resolved and the child usually feels well
  • Later:
    • Diffuse macular erythema trunk and limbs - central clearing - lacy
    • Reticulated
    • On extensor surfaces, spares palms and soles
