In 2% of patients with cardiac tamponade, pulsus paradoxus is absent. These patients typically have one of the following:
- {{c1::ASD}}
- {{c2::severe LV dysfunction}}
- {{c3::regional tamponade}}
- {{c4::severe hypotension}}
- {{c5::aortic regurgitation}}
Extra
Pulsus occurs because in tamponade, there is interventricular dependence because of high pericardial pressure. In these above cases, the inspiratory movement of the septum is prevented (for example, by increasing the LV pressure).
