Anterior blepharitis
Eyelid
hygiene
- Warm compress to eyelids with eyes closed daily for 2-5 minutes to soften crusts
- Gentle scrubbing of lashes with sodium bicarbonate solution, baby shampoo or eyelid solutions/wipes
Avoid make-up
If refractory:
Anterior blepharitis
Chloramphenicol 1% eye ointment to eyelid margin of both eyes BD for 1-2 weeks
Posterior blepharitis
Doxycycline 100mg PO daily. Reduce to 50mg PO daily after clinical improvement (usually 2-4 weeks). Treat for minimum 8 weeks.
- Weight-based dosing for children 8yo+
- Erythromycin for pregnant or breast-feeding women or children <8yo
