Incorrect Venipuncture
- Slow/difficult draws or improperly mixed tubes means blood may not get exposed to EDTA in time
- Small clots (microclots) or clumping platelets may affect patient results
- You can’t tell this from the tube – you must make a PBF
- Automated platelet count may be unexpectedly (falsely) decreased
