Commit #132593
Oxidation (Anode), reducing agent H2 reacts with the OH- in the electrolyte solution releasing electrons which is transferred over to the cathode.
H2 + 2OH- ---> 2H2O + 2e-
Reduction (Cathode), oxidation agent O2 reacts with the water in the electrolyte solution and the electrons transferred from the anode to to from OH-.
O2 + 2H2O + 4e- ---> 4OH-
Overall Redox equation
2H2 + O2 ---> 2H2O
Byproducts of this cell are water and heat, catalysts can be added into electrolyte solution to increase rate of reaction and the surface area of the electrode and be increased to increase current
