What are the major
differences between treatment with insulin and steroids?
Back
- Insulin acts as ligand, stimulating intake of glucose. Can only be injected, as it's a protein, and acts quickly.
- Steroids are lipids, so they can be given orally, and act more slowly. They inhibit production of inflammatory secretions, but existing secretions need to be metabolized before effects can be readily seen.
