Describe the dicotyledonous stem structure.
{{c1::The stem is composed of the epidermis, cortex, xylem, phloem and vascular bundle.
  • The epidermis, being the outermost layer, prevents water loss and provides protection from microorganisms. 
  • The cortex is an unspecialized cell layer thst sometimes stores food reserves.
  • The xylem are transport tubes that bring up water from the roots.
  • The phloem transports carbohydrates - usually from the leaves to other parts of the plant. 
  • The vascular bundle contains multiple vessels of both xylem and phloem.}}
