Neuronal impulse through vagus nerve stimulates proton pump on parietal cells
Histamine, acetylcholine, and gastrin receptors are stimulated
Pump uses ATP to pump H+ ions out into the stomach while K+ ions enters cells
Cl- channels pump chlorine out into stomach, forming HCl acid in stomach
