What 5 non-pharmacological strategies would you recommend to someone with a high CVD risk?

  • Smoking cessation
  • Follow a healthy eating pattern
    • Salt <5g/day
    • DASH diet / Mediterranean diet / refer to dietician / avoid junk food / 5 serves veges per day / limit saturated fats 
  • Incorporate regular physical activity into your routine
    • 30 mins of moderate intensity exercise on most if not all days of the week (at least 150mins /week)
    • avoid prolonged sitting
  • Achieve and maintain a healthy weight
    • sustainable changes over 6-12 months
    • BMI 18.5-24.9
  • Limit your intake of alcohol
    • No safe consumption so not drinking at all is best
    • No more than 10 standard drinks a week
    • No more than 4 standard drinks in one day 
    • At least 2 alcohol free days every week.
