{{c1::Pressure}}
Overload
● New sarcomeres are predominantly assembled in {{c2::parallel::perpendicular or parallel}} to the long axes
of cells → concentric increase in wall thickness
{{c1::Volume}} Overload
● New sarcomeres assembled in series within existing sarcomeres → ventricular dilation → wall thickness may be increased, normal,
or less than normal
● Heart weight {{c2::more::less or more}} than wall thickness
● Associated with {{c2::increased::increased or decreased}} oxygen consumption
→ Vulnerable to ischemia-related decompensation
Extra
There is increased oxygen consumption since the enlarged heart needs more energy and oxygen to pump the increased blood volume→increased oxygen demand makes the heart more susceptible to ischemia
