Main clinical symptoms of pneumonia, indications for hospitalization (admission to hospital).

Main Clinical Symptoms:
- Fatigue, anorexia, malaise
- Febrile (typical) or subfebrile (atypical) temperature
- Cough:
- Dry (atypical)
- Productive (typical; yellow or brownish, greenish, bloody sputum)
- Dyspnea:
- Not always present if other parts of the lungs are healthy and can maintain oxygenation
- In the elderly:
- Atypical presentation (no fever, no cough, only cognitive decline, apathy, anorexia)
Indications for Hospitalization:
- Disease severity
- Presence of comorbid conditions
- Inability to take oral medication & care for oneself (no help at home)
- CURB-65 or PSI – risk of death:
- CURB-65: ≥2 points is an indication for hospitalization
- PSI: Class IV & V are indications for hospitalization
