Rationale: An increase in precapillary resistance caused by arteriolar vasoconstriction lowers capillary hydrostatic pressure and reduces filtration of water out of the circulation. Increasing postcapillary resistance as with venoconstriction has the opposite effect, as does elevating capillary hydrostatic pressure or dilating precapillary sphincters. Hypoalbuminemia reduces plasma oncotic pressure and thus favors osmotic loss of water out of the capillaries.
