Describe how mass spectrometry can determine the residue composition of a protein

Peptide are ionized by a laser and thus separated. They then travel through an electric field at a speed inversely proportional to their mass. Since each amino acid has a specific mass, we can determine how many of each amino acid was present in the original protein
