  • Help with SDM: Decision Aids

    • How can we decrease or minimize decisional conflict for patients and minimize our cognitive biases? Use of {{c1::decision aids}} might be helpful. They can be used to provide information about condition and evidence about a decision. It puts numbers and risk into pictures, graphs or text and may give a more balanced overview. It allows patients to witness the components that go into the decision about any particular issue, and it also allows patients to interpret evidence in the context of their own goals and concerns. {{c1::Decision aids}} are helpful in increasing patient involvement and really don’t dramatically increase the time we have to spend. In fact, it may actually decrease time as it decreases decisional conflict and helps patients arrive at a conclusion faster!
