What is a scaphoid/navicular fracture?

Most common carpal bone fracture
--> these bones are block/brick shaped that has retro supply of blood flow (blood flow enters bone distally)
--> these bones are cancellous and don't have a medullary cavity so the blood flows through the trabecular back to the proximal portion of the bone
--> proximal scaphoid fx inc risk of avascular necrosis/no good healing
- bone has poor blood supply, difficult to heal
- 65% cases are waist fractures
